Salt & Sauna is a floating sauna in development for the waterfront around Vancouver and the North Shore. It will be permanently moored, open year-round, and designed to be part of the shoreline it sits on.
Cedar, glass, and salt: a sauna that looks out over the water while you're in it, direct ocean access for the cold, a fire to sit by afterward, and a lounge with the whole city and the mountains in front of you.
We're in development now, and have already done the groundwork on the health, marine engineering, and municipal requirements for a floating facility. That means we come to a site with our questions answered rather than starting from scratch. The look and layout will be shaped by where we land and by the architects and marine engineers who take it from here.
The inspiration

This region has one of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere, and for most of the year most of us only look at it. A sauna changes that. The cold stops being the reason to stay on shore and becomes the reason to get in.
Not a tub, not a plunge pool. You get out of the heat and into the Pacific, and then you do it again. That's the whole reason to be out here.
Every stretch of this coastline is different. We’d rather design to one location well than stamp the same building anywhere it fits.
Salt & Sauna Ltd. was founded by Cassidy Bast and Robert Spring. Cassidy led real estate brokerage development and expansion at RE/MAX and rennie, and brings business, customer-service and community-engagement experience. Robert brings marine, farming, mechanical and IT experience and leads our technical work. He also came to sauna the way a lot of people do: needing it. Recovering from spinal cord cancer, he found heat and cold did more for him than he expected, and he hasn't stopped since.
